In recognition of World Facilities Management Day, Arista would like to take this opportunity toWORLD FM DAY LOGO 2014 translations thank all of the Facilities Managers in the New York City area that we have had the privilege of working with over the years, as well as those we hope to work with in the future. They make our jobs easier every day. Here’s why:
They make communication and logistics easier.
Facilities Managers are a single point of contact for us when scheduling service calls. They know all about the equipment and understand what needs to be done. They help us get through security without a hassle and even sometimes help us out with where to park the truck to get equipment into the building.
They are keeping an eye on the equipment.
For many businesses, their mechanical systems are out of sight and out of mind, until something goes wrong. When there is a Facilities Manager taking care of the building, they are regularly inspecting the equipment. In between regular service visits, they can spot potential problems and call us in for a consultation before the issue causes a major system breakdown.
They understand the importance of maintenance.
At times it can be hard to convince some business owners that regular equipment cleaning and tune-ups will save them money in the long run. Not Facilities Managers. They have seen first-hand that maintaining equipment prevents costly repairs, lowers utility bills, and increases the life span of mechanical systems. Not only are they proactive in remembering to set up appointments for service, but they make sure to keep areas around equipment clear of debris and even sometimes take on cleaning tasks themselves.
They plan ahead for equipment purchases.
Facilities Managers know the age and the expected life span of each piece of equipment. They also are intimately familiar with both the current operation and the future needs of the organization. Without a Facilities Manager, often there is no one who is knowledgeable about all of these things. The Facilities Manager can therefore consult with service providers to plan ahead for equipment obsolescence and replacement, allowing the organization to more accurately budget for capital purchases. For us, this means being able to plan an installation at a convenient time for everyone, rather than doing it on an emergency basis after a breakdown.
They always make safety a priority.
Working on HVAC systems and other mechanical equipment can be dangerous at times. We work with refrigerants, which are potentially hazardous chemicals. We often need to climb into very hot ceilings, rooftops, and tiny crawl spaces to fix equipment. We work around potentially deadly currents of electricity. When a Facilities Manager is watching over the building, they do their best to make sure conditions are safe for our technicians to do their jobs.
These are just a few of the many reasons that we as service providers appreciate Facilities Managers every day, and we celebrate all their achievements today. Keep up the good work!
